Farwell Splash Park Society in Revelstoke, BC Awarded $25,000 Grant in 2018

Due to health concerns, after 50 years the wading pool was removed from Farwell Park. The park was once a central gathering spot for families and with the removal of the pool it soon became unutilized.

The Farwell Splash Park Society was formed in 2017 to raise funds necessary to once again offer a water facility that was free for all users as well as accessible to all ages and abilities.

The objective was to encourage a healthy lifestyle for young children, while rejuvenating a community gathering place.

The Society raised the funds to complete the project by late fall of 2018. With Revelstoke’s famous winter arriving soon, construction was held off until spring of 2019 with a completion date of midsummer.

The splash pad is 454 square meters with 9 features. The park is situated in a uniquely shaded, secure fenced area. Our Grand Opening was held on August 15, 2019 and was attended by over 200 children and 150 adults. Children were running around, interacting with other children, laughing and enjoying the water play and socialization. Throughout August and September, the park was a constant hub of activity. So much excitement from young children, caregivers, parents and grandparents.

We are very grateful to have had this opportunity to partner with Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust on this project. Without the generosity of this grant, it may not have been possible for us to complete this community project in such a timely manner.

This project has already made a huge impact on the quality of life in Revelstoke for young families. It is the only outdoor water play facility within City limits, and provides a safe and inviting area for all ages and abilities to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, while still remaining a free facility.

The installation of this water park has greatly contributed to a healthy and vibrant Revelstoke. We hope SIDIT continues to support such projects as this, as it is already showing such positive results in our community.

Thank you for believing in our project,
