North Shuswap Health Society $25,000 Grant
From Grant Recipient:
The North Shuswap Health Centre, located in Scotch Creek, BC, serves the entire rural area of the North Shuswap from Adams Lake to Seymour Arm. The funding received through the SIDIT grant has enhanced the health centre’s ability to deliver more consistent health services to the community.
The clinic renovation project has also allowed space to be utilized for Allied Health Services such as Manual Osteopathy and Dental Hygiene Services. Patients have been able to access Medical Care, Laboratory Services, Allied Health Services, Dental Hygiene and Foot Care Services in clinic. A Public Health Nurse also visits the clinic now to provide services including a Baby & Child Wellness Clinic.
The main objective of this renovation was to bring the clinic up to current medical standards and to improve confidentiality for patients. The renovation project improved the functionality of the clinic through some computer upgrades to make work stations more ergonomic. The purchase of medical equipment such as the liquid nitrogen system has allowed doctors to treat patients in clinic for a broad range of skin problems. The purchase of a baby scale and measure mat allows for our public health nurse, nurse practitioner & doctors to monitor the growth of babies and children.
The updated reception area has allowed for greater confidentiality for all patients and has improved communication flow and efficiency of work flow between doctors and clinic staff. The NSHC also has been successful with recruiting doctors to work with us in private contracts in addition to the usual locum days allocated through the Locums for BC Program.
The success of the NSHC being able to deliver these services is vital to our community otherwise patients are required to travel long distances to receive basic health care services. Funding through the SIDIT grant allowed for important upgrades to be implemented in the health centre and thereby improving the level of health care provided to the residents of the North Shuswap.
Thank you to the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust for this amazing support to the NSHC!
